Skeeter Seekers
Join us this summer in seeking out mosquitoes and help track mosquitoes in our parks!
We are inviting you to become citizen scientists by collecting mosquitoes in our local parks! The collection event is happening this summer 2026 at Bowness Park, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Prairie Winds Park, and Ralph Klein Park. Your participation helps us and the City of Calgary to better understand mosquito ecology, which in turn supports more effective and sustainable mosquito management in our communities.
How to participate:
1. Visit Bowness Park, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Prairie Winds Park, or Ralph Klein Park
2. Pick up mosquito kits located in the park centres. Each mosquito kit contains a collection tube and label.
3. Collect mosquitoes you encounter in the park during your visit (dead or squashed mosquitoes are fine).
4. Fill in the label with important information (date, time and location).
5. Return your labelled samples by dropping them off in the boxes located within the park centres.
Look out for the drop stations with our poster and a cooler to place your samples in! This station also has kits for you to pick up and start looking for mosquitoes!
